AUGUST 30, 2024 Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. Within Jewish commentaries, there are an abundance of parables that give insight into how Judaism considers specific Scripture. One such parable helps to explain the verse above. A weary traveler was walking along […]
AUGUST 29, 2024 Psalm 55:16-17 As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice. In these verses, David shines a light on the ancient custom of suspending one’s daily routine in order to pray […]
AUGUST 28, 2024 Psalm 55:6-8 So I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. Indeed, I would wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah. I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.” Betrayed and feeling forsaken by all, including friends and family, David expressed […]
AUGUST 27, 2024 Psalm 55:1-3 Give ear to my prayer, O God, and do not hide Yourself from my supplication. Attend to me, and hear me; I am restless in my complaint, and moan noisily, because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked. In previous psalms, David spoke of the suffering […]
AUGUST 25, 2024 Psalm 54:1-2 Save me, O God, by Your name, and vindicate me by Your strength. Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. There is a principle addressed in Deuteronomy which says, if a slave escaped his master and came to another for refuge, that person is […]
AUGUST 24, 2024 Psalm 54 For years David was compelled to be continually on the run, trying to stay ahead of Saul’s constant pursuit. As he moved from place to place, he found those willing to assist him, but he also encountered those willing to inform Saul of his whereabouts. Doeg was such a man; […]
AUGUST 23, 2024 Psalm 53:6 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God brings back the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. Ever since men felt the sting of sin’s consequence in the Garden, there has always burned the hope, and promise of a future redemption. The […]
AUGUST 22, 2024 Psalm 53:4-5 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God? There they are in great fear where no fear was. We live in a day and time when Pride is celebrated without any thought of what this leads to. Think about it: […]
AUGUST 21, 2024 Psalm 53:2-3 God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God…. There is none who does good, no, not one. Like David, the prophet Zechariah acknowledged that, “The eyes of the Lord scan to and fro throughout the whole earth” […]
AUGUST 20, 2024 Psalm 53:1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; there is none who does good. There is a long-standing tradition regarding this psalm which says, prophetically, David was speaking of the destruction of the Second Temple and the people responsible for it. Specifically, […]
AUGUST 19, 2024 Psalm 52:8-9 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever. I will praise You forever, because You have done it; and in the presence of Your saints I will wait on Your name, for it is good. There is a commentary associated with […]
AUGUST 18, 2024 Psalm 52:8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever. In the previous devotion we discussed how we, like David, can have confidence that God will bring us through our difficult situations and preserve us while we are in […]
